Trapping file types

I'm quite new to php and am currently trying to work out how to do a little task in a php based photo gallery called coppermine.

I have a little script that takes files passed to it and converts them into the .flv format.

I want to trap suitable uploaded files and convert them before continuing with the existing script. Unfortunately I'm not sure how to do it.

It's a shame I canot zip upload the 2 scripts to show them.

Sorry, but until you upload the file somewhere or post the code I can't help you - because I don't know what you are working with.
