"And now I want to plead with those two women, Euodia and Syntche. Please, because you belong to the Lord, settle your disagreement. And I asked you, my true teammate, to help these women, because they worked hard with me in telling others the good news. And they worked with Clement and the rest of my coworkers, whose names are written in the Book of Life." - Philippians 4:2-3
As I was reading this, I noticed that Paul did not say, "Enough arguing, Syntche is right Euodia". He did not say who was right or wrong - and for the most part, I don't think it mattered. What mattered to Paul was the fact that they were arguing at all. Now I know that sometimes it is important to get things right. For example, arguing over whether or not to go to war would be a good thing, because you don't want to be wrong about something like that. However, I have a feeling that they weren't arguing about something that important. I have a feeling that they were in the type of disagreement that I often find myself - the ones over nothing. :P
First and foremost, we are to love God, and love each other. But if we are always arguing with one another, how can we keep this law? Love is our first and largest priority, not what charity we should donate too, not the color of the church vans, and not what day of the week we should have Bible study. Do you see? Paul was trying to point that out to them. He wanted to protect them from one of the most common attacks from the enemy - division in the body of Christ.
"Please, because you belong to the Lord, settle your disagreement."
Personally I have found it easier to remember not to argue when I tell myself, "I am a lowly servant and everyone is better than me". The reason I chose this is because (1) It's true :-D and (2) it is an exact opposite of what Satan tells us, "You are someone special and your always right. Don't let them push you around, prove to them you're way is the best." And you know of Satan says it - it's wrong, because he is the father of lies.
So just remember LOVE. :D
